A numerical simulation of CCN impacts on weather modification efficiency

Aerosols affect development of clouds and precipitation by serving as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) ice (IN). Considering the dramatically changing ambient aerosol concentration, it is important to examine potential “side effect” pollution on enhancement weather modification. In this study, seeding was performed a event in Beijing summer 2008, which simulated NSSL two-moment scheme Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model. Sensitivity tests were conducted modifying concentration crystal amount investigate efficacy different CCN scenarios. There slight difference distribution between simulations with two concentrations: northern center polluted scenario weaker southern stronger. Compared normal scenario, liquid water mass severe larger, total contents snow graupel not sensitive concentration. With same man-made crystals seeding, quite under conditions. The higher usually leads stronger suppression. As increase, deposition growth snow, auto-conversion accretion weakened, well conversion melting into rainwater.
